Poem depicting winter as a wicked witch intent on destroying the beauty of nature.

THE BLACK WIDOW

Image via Wikipedia

The gilt wood wails as acrid fumes coil

and a carbon clad crone intones words fell

that bludgeon the light; all mirth to despoil.

Her feline eyes stalk where the glories dwell.

Her tresses are asps that spurt green malice

upon the trees noble whose prize robes tumble.

Into coma they sink when drains her chalice

At victory she cackles; rock and stone rumble
