Growing up in the old eerie dark and cold Glasgow tenements in the 1950’s…
we were always reminded by our Granny about the Bogey Man
and how he was always used to frighten the nappy off us if we were bad.
we’d see scary shadows on the walls and thoght it was the Bogey Man.
We were terryfied. Then years later I put pen to paper and created my poem.
There a wis ly’in in ma bed
Quilt and knees up tae ma kneck.
Then a glanced accross the room
prey’n fer daylight tae come sometime soon.
Then a saw it a large dark fige’r
Staunnin by the big bay winda,
Fear took hold a wanted tae screem
a sat up wonderin if it wis only a dream.
A tossed and turned thae hale night through
wonderin wit the heck tae do,
Then Granny’s voice came intae ma mind
never be bad tae o mankind.
The Bogey Man wis always aroon
ma Granny made sure o that,
So if a wis bad she’d always say,
The Bogey Man wisnae that faur away.
Finally daylight came shinnin through
only tae find it wisnae you,
a thank the Lord, hand on ma Heart
the fige’r a saw
wis ma Granny. coat n hat
