This poem takes the process of turning wheat into bread and relates that process to what the Bread of Life, Jesus Christ, went through to bring us salvation through His death on the cross.

Thou art the bread of life
Bruised, baked and broken
That I might have life
You died for me.

Wheat must be planted
And die in the ground
Christ must needs suffer
That His fruit be found

As grain is crushed
And ground to make flour,
You too were bruised
For sins that were ours

Bread must be baked
In an oven so hot.
Christ was afflicted.
His sins they were not.

The bread is now broken
Its goodness to share.
Christ too was broken.
Our sins he bare.
You died for me.
