A poem about a cactus and growing up.
A cactus watches atop a mountain,
Young but curious to the ways of the world.
Watching with little else to do. So bored and lonely, so young.
Later with an owl to keep him company
he has seen a lot yet done little.
Catching the news from his friend the owl,
he grows up a little in the ways of this world.
Now twenty years later he gives advice to passing quail
and counsel to distressed lizards.
Grown up he becomes content to listen to the wind
and watch the world and everything in it.
