A meat eater and a vegetarian face off across a resturant table in this lyric that debates dietary choices and their impact. Whether you are a confirmed carnivor, a vegan, or somewhere in between, you can learn something new listening in…
Veggie DelightShe said, “I don’t eat things with faces.”
I said, “I think my roast beef just smiled.”
She said, “Would you like to trade it places?”
I looked into her clear eyes, half-beguiled.
She said, “The resources in your sandwich,
Could serve six or seven eating mine.”
I said, “What’s the crime in smoked balogne?”
She said, “Perhaps you’ll see another time.”
Then she glanced out the window,
While my eye slid up her leg.
Such a slender, sober lovely,
She could make Meat Eater beg.
I won’t say that I’m wrong,
But could that girl be right?
One thing I know for certain–
She’s my Veggie Delight.
She said, “You stomp hard, while I tread softly.
Your meal takes five times the space to grow.”
I said, “Now you’ve got me feeling awfully.
I don’t think those rain forests should go.”
She said, “We’re running low on good water.
Your annual feed requires two swimming pools.”
I said, “How much is it for a veggie?”
She said, “For us, its one pool, half full.”
I watched her necklace vanish
Down inside her blouse somewhere–
And the carnivor inside me
Would have chased it, if I’d dared.
I won’t say that I’m wrong,
But could that girl be right?
One thing I know for certain–
She’s my Veggie Delight.
She’s my Veggie Delight,
She’s smart, sweet and perky.
She’s my Veggie Delight,
With compassion on my turkey.
She has her own convictions,
It could be she’ll change mine.
She’s my Veggie Delight,
I’ll take her anytime.
Then she glanced at her lettuce,
And I noticed her skin.
Since Eve looked up at Adam,
No Manbeast’s gonna win.
I won’t say that I’m wrong,
But could that girl be right?
One thing I know for certain,
She’s my Veggie Delight.
Maybe she’s got something–
She is a scruptious sight.
One thing I know for certain,
She’s my Veggie Delight.

Author’s Note: The title for this piece is the only vegetarian option at the Subway sandwich shop. I’d had it for supper the day I wrote the lyric. All details cited by Veggie Delight are authentic, and even understated.
