What does the common man have in common
With the lesser man?
Is it letting go of the pain
And the memory of killing?
Or is it the rugged distaste of war,
A war of fruition.
A true soldier knows
The ills of war,
A mandate
That will never be approved
In God’s eyes.
The sad memory
Of death and war
Is embedded in the mind,
Soul and heart of the soldier forevermore.
And the sad facts remain the same,
How can you forgive yourself
For taking another’s life?
