Five bored children, one match and a horrible outcome…

That summer had been hot!
Acres of green cherry trees seemed out of place surrounded by the dry plains.
The cherries must be picked or else they’d rot.
He was kind and took us in.
A tiny trailer was out home,  happy for a place to sleep we didn’t moan…
Under the summer sun our father slaved.
We were bored, so we misbehaved.
It began with a cigarette, and a single match…
The fire spread quickly.. the “call” was made and many trucks were dispatched.
Like a fire breathing dragon the orchard was devoured.
Hot black smoke filled the blue sky…
Our poor uncle stood there in shock and only asked “why?”
Our welcome became worn out, it was time for us to go..
we piled into our car,  where to now?  We didn’t know…
The brother’s didn’t speak, resentments were many..
In time wounds were healed, the fire never mentioned…
their lips were forever sealed.
All because of one match,  trailers,  a cherry orchard and acres of land…
gone in a flash…
Nothing was left but a pile of smoldering ash…
