The funny clown cries inside.
Everybody laughs but the comedian
he sees the joke in it all
Only he really gets the punchline
the rest of us get to return
to whatever keeps us afloat
the thing that stops us despairing
the comedian just gets to tell his jokes
it is best that he gets there before anybody else
