What on earth is happening
In this world today
with the high cost of living?
Prices of everything has escalated
to a ridiculous point.

Even the basic necessities like food
has seen it’s prices hiked.
If you take your Family out to eat
make up your mind to pay through your teeth,
when you go to a fancy restaurant,
it’s the jacked up price of the food plus tax
and don’t you forget the compulsory tip.

If you want good quality clothes
you have to face the high price stores,
or you may want to try the
Goodwill or Salvation army thrift.
There’s lots of cheap clothes around
So don’t get me wrong now,
but once in the washer, and one spin in the drier
and some of them become unrecognizable.

If you are one of the lucky ones
to own your own home,
watch out for the bank on your back
as you’re one step away from being homeless.
Don’t try to sell it now either
the timing is wrong, not a very good sellers market.

What about the cost of getting an education?
Tuition fees are on the rise
and cost of books are really high,
It will take some of you the rest of your lives
to pay off your old student loans.

You’d better not get sick
just the hospital bils will kill you,
one hour in the Emergency room
could cost you one month’s salary.
You work hard all your life
and try to save for your golden years,
but you can barely get by
on your Social security and pensions.

The thing I want to mention last
Is the escalating price of gas,
almost four dollars at the pump
the bus and train sure look good now.

This high cost of living
is not even enhancing our lifestyles,
Instead I think it is strangling the little people
Instead of the “Cost of living”
I think it should be called
“The way we’re dying!”
