What lies behind the cynic’s crooked

smile and leer?

Need you ask? You–who were

once, so dear;

sister to a villain,

and a sham… poor lamb!

Behind the cynic’s smile

is pain.

The pain of parent’s

denial…

We who are ignorant to

life…smile…and

ask why the bully hits

the same

weak child?

Is it that easy

to blame

my brother, who lives in

shame…

Over and over and over

again? Indeed, we need to know

why we hate the cynic’s mask

and ask, does it bare our name?
