A nature poem capturing a gardener`s account of the mating dance of a Hummingbird.

Hanging droplets

Water glistened

Orangey clear, fall

Painted by the brush

Of the afternoon sun.

On a backdrop of daisies,

Lupines and sage

This garden yarn was sown.

There, in the hot

Humid air of the day

Entered Stage Left the star.

Darting, flurrying

Shimmering grey

A tiny creature soared

Back and forth

Across the stage

Teasing, there played

In the vapours of the nozzle spray.

Then the darting

Flitting slowed,

Center Stage

Dancing wings revealed

The body of a hummingbird

So close, eyes brave–

Bravely staring me down.

Boasting a brilliant suit

A watermelon, pink and green

This tiny body quivering

Hovered across the stage.

Dainty bones housed

So carefully in a proud frame,

Shape shifted,

Dancers arms to poised wings.

Culminating the moment,

Lingering in the spray

Droplets glistened

Diamond fell

Upon the pink and green.

Quickly shaking, satisfied

With almost a bow my way

The hummingbird swiftly turned

And exited the stage.
