Catherine Ann was our first child. She was the result of a miscarried pregnancy. One of my sisters-in-law sent a stargazer lily to us in that time of sorrow. That lily has always been Catherine Ann’s Lily to me. I cannot see one without thinking of the child I never held. On the occasion of my father-in-law’s passing my wife included Catherine Ann’s Lily in a floral arrangement without my knowledge. When I saw the floral arrangement at the graveside, it was a very emotional moment for me.
I never knew you on this earth, but I know I someday will.
I don’t know why this happened, but I know it was God’s will.
When I saw our daddy cry that day, I did not know it then,
Those tears he cried for you, my big sister, Catherine.
I’m sorry I never thought of you the way I do today,
You weren’t just someone’s baby but part of the family.
