The rose in bud is one of my favourite flowers.

I stepped outside to greet the dawn
As dewdrops glistened in the early morn,
And there beheld a tiny rose
Lying quietly in repose.
Its tender sepals curled in tight
Would soon burst forth in morning light,
To bathe in sunshine’s golden rays
Relishing the warmth of summer days.

Its bloom would open to the sky
Inviting bees as they fly by
With a heavenly scent we all could share
Filling the gently moving air.
But all too soon the leaves will fade
And petals shrivel in the shade
Then nature will take this glorious flower
Back unto its natal bower
