Are we but a body?
The desert leaves us lost with thirst,
We journey across hot and burning sand,
Sweat beads and falls with a burst,
Oh how we lament the loss of luxury once again.
Rays of the midday sun beam on down,
Its flame strives higher and higher till it crumbles,
Slowly our dehydrated bodies hit the ground,
The all our knowledge comes out in mumbles.
Woe to you for all your simple arrogance!
And your homocentric point of view,
Nature is unforgiving in her stance,
Much as man is perpetually untrue.
Forgive those who trespass all the more,
And lament not those who victimize you,
For justice and balance have reached the threshold of the door,
Just as the desert beckons those realities we choose to misconstrue.
Fluttering our ember soars aloft an eternal flame,
Our parched throats in unison call out in vain,
Our quest for knowledge brings us shame,
Only the ignorant will be left to reign.
In tattered rags and broken homes we find that which is true,
In memory of materialism’s death I will solemnly swear,
The desert grows each day and will finally conquer you,
So drink now from the cup that offers life so fair.
