A poetic comedy on adages.
The Devil’s Workshop
Health, wealth, prosperity and success
Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness
Are only in the book and the parched scroll
Heads in the clouds and heads will roll!
For no reason will your neck be wrung
No wonder the good die young
Hapless victims of other’s crime
Alas yes, for they hadn’t the time
Better dumb than to be thought a fool
But for once I defy this rule
And risk being thought crazy
Blissful are they who are lazy
To those who wait everything goes
Happiness lies right under your nose
Peace and harmony you will find
In the retreats of the idle mind
Time and tide wait for none
And the early bird gets the worm
But don’t leap before you look
For the early fish gets the hook
But don’t take to heart what I say
The sun sets on another day
That the idle mind tossed away
I made a bed out of hay
He came today and left with a smirk
Possessed me and was at work
And so these lines I wrote
The scriptures, even a devil does quote
