Do you remember eating at the table with your family and everyone was laughing and carrying on? Do you miss those days too?
When I was little every morning I had a battle to fight
In that big, old chair with so much history.
Sometimes I’d wonder why it picked me to sit here
Knowing I wasn’t able to eat those soggy corn flakes.
That timer that sat a few feet away, so many days
It determined my fate as I stared at those burnt hot dogs
Wondering how I’d escape their awful taste, the only thing
I enjoyed was the summer breeze as I sat alone.
But I remember those hamburgers from Burger Street
And that night that Daddy cooked fries and milk
and he always made some mighty fine sloppy joes
couldn’t wait to eat, the smell kept me on my toes
the best night’s were when we all enjoyed mom’s good meal
all six of us were there with our hands together as we bowed
and said grace before we touched our plates. I knew I would go
to sleep a happy camper.
Well the food is cooking and we’re all getting ready
I can’t wait to eat tonight on this special occasion as love
Keeps the lights lit and hunger guides us in the same direction
We are finally able to once again sit together at the dining table.
