A poem that I wrote from start to finish in one sitting that ambles around the question: How many ways can I say life sucks?

The Doom
by Lew Sethics
Who’ll listen to my DT mumbles
About a white shadow in the night
That glides in the space where grown men tremble
Like a shiv between the ribs of light?
Nobody can claim to not have saw him
But he’s there in the corner of your eye.
No-one can claim to ever face him
But the grim and the feeble minded
Whose hearts are like a barred door room,
Minds like broken fingers pointing in all directions
Toward the one that’s called The Doom.
Set a spell, but don’t take your shoes off.
Gotta be ready to run, now.
Don’t be afraid, there’s power in numbers, I think.
And the shadows in the corner don’t really grow
Until the world is crushed in a deadly darkness
That breeds the vile that soaks mens minds
At the cost of a soul,
There’s no more danger here than there is anywhere,
Hell, it’s everywhere,
But we’re safe now,
As long as we pass the bottle and talk in loud voices,
Eyes averted, looking at nothing,
But seeing The Doom.
Lord, I’d give you all my money
My twisted body
My crumpled clothes,
To taste some kind of Holy whiskey
And stagger like a sane man home.
Lord, I’d even take religion;
Pass the tray, join the feast.
But, suckerpunch me to the stoneage,
I sang the hymns, regard the priest,
And he raised his arms.
And tear salted sweat poured from the convocation
The prayer turned into an incantation
And stony faces turned to see
My dead grin twist in horrid laughter
As I surrendered in this giant room
Willingly, to the Doom.
