A poem from my anthology “Inside Out” – a collection of poetry to show the external vs the internal effects of life and society and the physical, mental and emotional breakdown of the protagonist as an affect of this.

I’m lost in the desert of some foreign land.

There’s a drunken warmth from the burning sand.

It rises through my feet,

goes shooting through my spine,

my mind a lone explorer in another’s dream.

Slurring through the sand -

dust dancing in the wind -

singing through my ears -

            blinding me with tears -

blurred like the sea

my mind grows still.

Now this is more to my liking. I love the first two lines of this poem, which sets the tone for the rest of the poem. Very well done.
