Awful lot of this going on lately….
Maybe it’s just me, but it kind of seems like the whole place is is falling apart, doesn’t it? The earthquake in Haiti just took what may end up totaling a quarter of a million people; last night one ripped the South American country of Chile to pieces with a quake that measured 8.8 on the Richter scale. If you’re keeping score, that’s over 500 times more powerful than the Haitian earthquake.

It kind of makes you wonder what the hell is going on around here, doesn’t it? Perhaps it’s the blue car syndrome. You buy a blue car, you suddenly realize just how many blue cars are on the road. We get a monster of an earthquake, we suddenly notice just how many of these things are going off around us. But this is ridiculous.

This is earthquakes yesterday. Maybe its just me, but that looks like a lot of damn earthquakes. And they seem to just keep coming. I know, I know. Seismic activity is pretty common. But this is a lot of earthquakes. And it isn’t limited to earthquakes. All around us, the world is falling apart.
It makes you think a bit more about the doom sayers spouting off about 2012. 6 months ago, the silly little theories about gravitational pulls from a bunch of crap aligning causing the Earth’s crust to shift and such sounded just that; silly. But now, one has to wonder a bit. With images like this coming forth of late, you almost have to wonder….
The Haitian Earthquake Fallout
The Chile Earthquake.
Maybe it’s just an initial over reaction. But it is enough to give you pause, isn’t it? We spend so much time in life worrying about the insignificant things; both on a personal level and as a society. Perhaps we should take a few moments to remember that, as cliche as it may sound, this life if fragile. Earthquakes, not just in Haiti and Chile, but all over the globe… even Chicago had an earthquake a few weeks ago…. mudslides, hurricanes, typhoons, volcanic eruptions, are tearing this planet up constantly. At any given time, some one is dying from some catastrophe or another.
Take a moment today to remember that. While you’re worrying about health care, mortgage payments, and other of life’s everyday problems, remember that it could all be gone in an instant. Appreciate what’s important. Give your kids a hug. Kiss your spouse. Call your mom. Because by the look of it, we may not have much longer to do so.
