Farewell to my summer garden of home-grown vegetables.

Summer has almost gone,

taking with it that wonderful supply

of fresh home-grown vegetables,

on which we came to rely.

A few green beans still dangle

enough for a meal no doubt,

the birds have their eyes on the grapes

if we’re not quick we’ll go without.

The lettuce and parsley have served us,

providing us with meals of health,

mixed with the bright red tomatoes

of nutrients there’s been a wealth.

But sadly it’s now almost over,

the best of the garden has gone,

But over the fence from the neighbours

the passionfruit and feijoas come on.

You have to have green fingers to have had such fine healthy plants.

  • Val Mills on Mar 5, 2010

Not sure about green fingers. We just throw them in and they grow. Nice organic free fresh vegies.

You’ve had a wonderful harvest, Val. We are looking forward to our summer blooms. As our garden is tiny and as we like to fill it with flowers we only have room for a few tomato plants. A great read and I hope your winter will be better than ours was.

Our garden is tiny too, Christine. You can see the size of it from the lettuce and parsley picture.
