Story of a family’s immigration to the U.S. and the events following.

 

A life of cruelty

A whirlpool

 

Opportunity

A new life

A new land

Disguised as a calm river

It seemed so happy, so good

But the moment they arrived in the new land,

Went around the bend,

Is when it started

 

When he would come home,

He would yell at her

Curse her, beat her

But she was a wall, she could take anything

 

Each night, it would continue worsening

Like a balloon:

Growing

Expanding

Ready to burst

But it didn’t

 

When she realized, it was too late

She was near the center

She didn’t know how to swim

 

And that night it was worse,

He came home drunk,

More drunk than usual

 

When she tried to talk to him

To get him to change

He beat her

Like a hurricane striking a house

And didn’t stop until it was decimated

 

Then, she did the only thing she knew,

She picked me up

And ran

    what a sad poem. She built up the courage to do what she had to do. Abuse goes on in every culture and every race. It is a sin of mankind. Love never is suppose to hurt.
