Red Cloud’s War and the Great Sioux Tribes Fight for the Black Hills and the Powder River Country.

Red Cloud, he was a great Sioux chief
American soldiers caused him great grief
The Lakota tribes he did lead
The buffalo provided all they would need
But by the hunters these beasts were killed
On the plains, much buffalo blood was spilled
The carcasses were left right there
To rot and rot and stench the air
The white men came for skins and gold
To leave their land the Sioux were told
But Red Cloud, he kept up his fight
He fought for the land which was his by right
At last he drove the white men out
His men showed their glee with a great big shout
But the treaty the whites did break,
The valuable Sioux land they aimed to take
They fought the tribes for their land
At Little Bighorn were defeated by Sitting Bull’s band
The fight was known as Custer’s Last Stand
The greatest U.S. defeat in any Indian land
But eventually the tribes were defeated,
On the reservations how poorly they were treated
But Sitting Bull was still out there
He fled to Canada to avoid the reservation affair
The U.S. army he did scare
All of their soldiers were told, “Beware”
After many years in the Canadian cold
Sitting Bull would surrender the reservation was told
On reservations were at last all the Sioux
Their war days over, their warriors blue
And thus the story of the Sioux tribes is done
Their land all taken, their cultures undone
