During the summer the annual circus visited our harbour village. It is an exciting time for all.

Upon the green where children play
Their football games on weekend days,
The circus has returned once more
To provide the fun we all adore.
*
The big top rises up so high
A sight so pleasing to the eye.
That muddy green they will transform
To thrill us all when they perform.
*
Night has come and families wend
Their way into that giant tent.
Pennies saved towards this day
Bring acts of all kinds for display.

The show has started, clowns appear.
The crowds applause and raise much cheer.
Above their heads the high trapeze
Sends artistes flying with such ease.
*
Jugglers toss their clubs and balls
And clowns raise laughter with their falls.
Tumbling acrobats show great flair
While tightrope walkers defy the air.

Bareback riders parade their skills
With tricks that give the utmost thrills
And fire eaters bring forth gasps of awe
The excitement no one can ignore.
*
A scintillating finale ends the show.
It’s time for everyone there to go
Back home with memories quite supreme
Of the day the circus changed our village green.
