We all have moments in our lives where a choice could change what other people view as acceptable. Cassie Bernall made a choice that did just that.

I know of a girl
Who said something cool
During a horrific event
That happened at Columbine High School.
The girl’s name was Cassie Bernall,
A girl whose life at first had not been that great.
You see, she made friends with the wrong crowd
With the kind of people she knew her parents would hate.
Her new friends made her do bad things
Things like drugs and drinking.
They got her to start to dressing and acting like them
And soon it got to the point where she was not correctly thinking.
Her parents soon found out
All about the bad things she did.
They could not believe that their only daughter,
Who they thought was good, was becoming a bad kid.
They tried to bring her life around
But instead they made it worse.
She became more and more rebellious,
And she even started to curse.
But about a year later,
At a youth retreat,
She finally figured out that without God’s love,
Her life was not complete.
As quick as lightning,
Her attitude changed.
She actually smiled for the first time in years
It was as if her life had been rearranged.
Her family was in awe.
“I do not believe it,” said they.
But when she started acting better,
They were speechless, not knowing what to say.
The former bad teen
Quickly became a Godly girl,
Setting an example for other teens
And this made her happy and bouncy, like a tight, tight curl.
One bright April morning,
When Cassie was in the library reading Macbeth,
There came the time
When she had choose life or death.
Two students thought it would be fun
To bring some guns to school
They would start a killing spree
Which is an action made from a fool.
They soon ran into Cassie, who was praying,
And asked her a question
Which much later
Would teach us all a lesson.
They asked her if she believed in God,
Surprisingly, she said yes.
They asked her why, but then they shot her.
Sadly, she died in a second, no more, no less.
Her family was in awe.
“I do not believe it,” said they.
But when they saw her body,
They were speechless, not knowing what to say.
Cassie’s powerful word
Touched many lives.
Faith matters,
And this is something we have finally come to realize.
Yes Cassie, I too believe in God.
And because of you
I am proud to show
That I believe and love the Lord, too.
