Was Odysseus really such a great man?

Odysseus the brave and fearless man from the book The Odyssey written by Homer is said to be a God-like man, has the strength of ten men, can change his looks to disguise himself, but does he have all these “God-like” qualities by just improving himself and making him self near perfect without any help from the Gods? I think not. Odysseus had been given immense help from the Gods. Odysseus had been given help from the mighty Poseidon, he had gotten help from the wise Asclepius, he had also been given help from the beautiful Athena. Without the help from these gods Odysseus would have been a dead man for sure.
The great and powerful Poseidon had greatly helped in the success of Odysseus’s plan. In the Trojan war, ”‘Son of Laertes and the gods of old, Odysseus, master of land ways and sea ways, command yourself. Call off this battle now, or Zeus who views the wide world may be angry.’” . After fighting with Trojans for more than a decade Odysseus had came up with a plan that would lead him to victory but without the summoning of the sea serpent to attack the traitor who was going to make the Trojans believe that the men were inside the horse was attacked and thus Odysseus’s plan had worked due to the help of Poseidon’s assistance. Odysseus being the egotistic man that he was went to the ocean beach and had told the god Poseidon that he is such a great man and had received no help from the Gods had just spoke himself into a decade of hell at sea. Poseidon had told Odysseus that his time at sea will be a living hell, ”‘The present doom upon the ship on me my father prophesied in the olden time. If we gave safe conveyance to all passengerswe should incur Poseidon’s wrath, he said, whereby one day a fair ship, manned by Phaiakians, would come to grief at the god’s hands;’”.
