Little girl’s search for the perfect costume.
Little girl
In the costume shop
Swishing in and out
Of the racks
Sparkly flowing Princess dresses
Dark and jagged witch gowns
Shipwrecked pirates colorful, tattered rags
All dance around her
“No”, “No”, she says to each one
“That’s not what I’m looking for,”
She states matter-of-factly
As mom taps her foot impatiently
She sadly complies
When mom says, “It’s time to go”
And walks out of the shop
Empty-handed
Alone in her room, decorated in pink
Inspiration hits
After several snips of her scissors
She tries on her new creation
“It’s perfect!” she shouts
As she looks in the mirror
For staring back at her,
(in front of her sheet-less bed)
Is the pink polka dot ghost
She’d always wanted to be!
