No matter what type of relationship you are in, you shouldn’t be abuse in any way. It’s hard to escape. It’s hard to know if you did something to provoke it. But most of all it is hard to understand it’s not your fault you are getting abused.

bumps, bruises
scratches, possibly wounds
from the hunting knife
used to hunt a human
want to scream
but nothing comes out
want to run
but too scared
because it’s bad enough as it is
just stay there
take the pain and the blood
from the fists of rage
but when you’re in a relationship
those strikes, those cuts and bruises,
mean nothing and are welcomed
when saying no doesn’t stop
the hurtful, rough “sex” you don’t want,
that you have said “no, stop it”
over and over again
so there they are
those cuts and bruises,
the blood and the pain
from another day in the life
of an abuser and his victim
