When a kitty wants to keep something, it can be so hard for you to win!

My feet are cold…my toes are blue.

The kitty has my slipper!!

She won’t come out from underneath

the bed.  I have to get her!

And so I’m crawling on the floor

on stomach, knees, and elbows

but when my fingers barely reach

my goal,  she’s not too mellow…

and grabs my slipper, dragging it

a little deeper under!

Now listen here, you furry thief

my toes are getting number!!

I’ve hit my head at least four times

on wooden slats so far!

And on this journey, I have found

a half-smooshed candybar,

the other half to a pair of socks,

a paper plate and knife,

a dusty bulb that was changed last month

so the bed’s lamp would burn bright,

an olive pit, a paperclip,

some kleenix and a cashew!

I’ll give you tuna, …salmon, too

just give me back my night shoe!

She drops the slipper where she sits

and yawns while stretching forward.

I want to make a reach for it

but now she’s leaning to’wards

my hand and, nudging it with nose,

she clearly wants some patting!

So, sighingly, I rub her ears

and all the while getting

a little closer to my goal!

I feel I must act coy and

pretend that I no longer want

her version of a toy…then

contentedly, she closes eyes

and seems to be half-dozing!

In thankfulness, I touch the bow

and pray she sees no movement…

But isn’t it just like my luck

to have a smart ol’ kitty

who knows so many tricks, herself,

that she looks down with pity

on any creature trying to

outwit…outsmart…outcon her!

The kitty’s gone…my slipper, too!

and I’m stuck here ‘down under’!

That’s a real “under world” experience for sure. (I think half pairs of socks breed under the bed.)

Absoloutly hilarious, I am off now to look under my bed, to see what treasures lie withunder

Don’t you just love them – little dears!

It was like watching a humorous video in my head… such a good read. Truly enjoyed!

That is so funny. I can visualise you under the bed trying to grab the elusive slipper. But cats are always much wilier than us. Great work.

Hi Daisy! I think some socks breed under the bed while others escape through the portal that’s in the dryer! :)

Hi brianberu! Well, if you should find a white tube sock with a gray toe section, it’s mine!!! :)

Hi Evelyn! Yes, we do love them but I think the problem is that they know this and enjoy taking advantage of us! :)

Hi Karelee! Thank you so much! As soon as I get the book, “Computers for Dummies”, I might actually be able to post SpiceGirl’s and Noodleman’s pictures on some of these articles! :)

Hi Christine! I’ll tell you…trying to scoot myself along the floor under the bed now is SO different than when I was ten years old!! I just don’t remember it being this hard back then! Ha ha. :)

Hi Glynis! I’m glad…thank you! It’s fun to be able to use words to help improve even just a small part of our world! :)

    ur just marvelous
    see how deaf folks combine,
    and triond helps one another,
    equally deaf one find .

    your poem on a kitty,
make me feel the depth of ur passion,
i too have with my late dog,
had paired in similar fashion .

    u still have ur kitty,
    my candy has gone ,
and left me so aghast and fore-lorn.

    fun to read

Hi Yovita! I’m glad you liked it because it was fun typing it up…after I finally got my bedslipper back from SpiceGirl!:)

Hi Lovely Honey! So sorry about Candy but I hope you have room in your heart and home for another dog or kitty that would love to be loved and wanted by you! :) There’s so many animals out there needing good homes that it’s just heartbreaking!

Hi Dee Gold! Good! :) I obtained my goal, then! Ha ha. SpiceGirl wasn’t too happy with having to give up my slipper but when I put an old shoe onto my computer chair and then pulled the laces down between the seat and the back of the chair (so they’d dangle as a playtoy for her) SpiceGirl perked right up! :)

I love your “cat capers”! I think I should name another wikizine and place your link in there first. I could picture the whole thing playing out before my eyes!

  • M J katz on May 10, 2009

Hi Judy! If you think the writings are funny, you should try living with these two characters! Today Noodleman didn’t like a large plastic pot of dirt and seed on HIS back window…my husband saw two paws wrapped around the container with Noodleman’s head wedging itself between the screen and the pot as though he was going to push this pot off the sill! Mike saved the pot but said he’d never seen anything like this before! Ha ha. Instead of Children of the Corn, we may have Cats of the Sill! :)
