This was written in the summer between my Freshman and Sophomore year of High School. It was a way for me to branch out and explore a more visual way of writing poetry. I think it actually detracts from the message.

Leaf

sitting on a branch

in the fall

wondering whether to drop

and join the status quo.

To be a sheep huddled in a blanket of yellows, oranges and reds

protected in a sea of similarity

Or to stay and enjoy the view

of mountains, lakes and other naked trees.

Ever curious of the abrasive fall

to submit to gravity’s eternal ploy

swoop away from its lofty perch

and to not

be

alone

For a person so young you show a lot of promise. You seem to know what poetry is and use it’s bag of tools (imagery, allusion, contrast, etc.) quite well. I look forward to more and even better from you as you develop. Good luck.
