In the living room,
the mantle swung
to an fro,
broken through the seemingly sturdy walls;
the earth
shattered eight windows
and ate the basement in one gigantic gulp!
A chandelier crashed down from ceiling
and crushed the kids
that played below.
The house convulsed the countryside,
leaving blood, broken bits and tears;
A spastic apple took seconds to destroy
what years put into construction.
The frame came smashing inward,
an’ out;
jolting every piece of life an’ dust within.
The earthquake made no indifference
between the two layers which existed . . .
