This is a spiritual poem that talks of a journey and how our life on earth is just a short layover on our trip to eternity. The ticket is free, bought and paid for long ago – enjoy the ride.

In air travel, sometimes an airplane will stop for a layover before proceeding to the final destination of a trip. Man is a spiritual creature and I like to think of his or her spirit being like that plane, and life being like a long, adventurous layover on the journey home.
My Father sent me on a journey,
I left when very young.
He sent me in care of mom and dad,
With love He sent me along.
He said that my journey would seem long
But this was not where I’d stay.
Although my longest stop, earth was just
A layover on my way.
I used this layover wisely;
I fully lived, learned and loved.
For detours, breakdowns, forks in the road,
I sought help from up above.
I always looked toward the horizon
No matter where I roamed;
I knew if I kept my eyes on Him
My Lord will guide me home.
As my final destination neared,
My loved ones gathered around.
I still showed joy through my body’s pain,
I knew I was heaven bound.
As I closed my eyes, God carried me
The final leg of my journey.
The layover was good, but now the best -
With Him eternally.
