The Native American legend of how Fisher became the Big Dipper.

They couldn’t remember when it felt so cold
Four friends made their way seeking shelter from the snow

They headed out to where the sky and mountains meet
Looking for a place to warm their feet

Otter jumped for all he was worth, but he bumped his head
Lynx then leaped up too but fell back down instead

Wolverine he tried it next, using the muscles in his back
Then they heard a mighty crack

Fisher you great hunter, run for all you’re worth
Bring us the summer heat back down to earth

Fisher you great hunter, you best be aware
Sky people are angry and do not like to share

Mighty Fisher let the summer in as fast as he could
Sky people came out shouting, swinging clubs of wood

Wolverine called to his friend, but he didn’t turn around
And a sky people arrow then took Fisher down

Fisher you great hunter, why wouldn’t you run
Look what the sky people have done

Gitchee Manitou the all knowing and all wise
Breathed life back into Fisher and a constellation prize

When earth moves closer in its trip around the sun
The big dipper will be pouring out its warmth for everyone

Fisher you great hunter, the big dipper now you are
Your friends only need to look up to find you in the stars

I love this and am looking forward to reading more of your writes. Folks call me a “nature nut” among other things. I am also a Christian and do a lot of Christian writes as well as nature and health article. I think we have a bit in common and I have added you as a friend. This is a wonderful take on the legend. Good writing. Great share.
