A poem about what we hide and show and why.

Wanting to be special

We put on makeup in layers and

Those large hooped earrings

No one will see how afraid we are

Of the barbed-wired fences

Around our hearts

Our faces are beautiful

But not so innocent

What remains

But a bucket of raindrops

For the disappointment

Shallow pools

In which we see

The memory of everything

We thought to hold

But lack?

Deference

Defense

Defiance

Difference.

Such a poignant and well written poem. I suppose we all try to cover up our insecurities. Well done.

Another beautiful piece of writing, I loved the image of barbed wire fences around our hearts and the alliteration of the last four lines. What we present to the outside world often masks so many complexities inside.
