A poem that I wrote back in 2005, while I was trying to decide what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.
This poem has a lot of references to Alice in Wonderland.
I dreamed of where the white rabbit goes
Through the looking-glass of ages old.
I dreamed of morning covered dew,
Of finding my way back to you.
Is this the world of stolen innocence
Where to some Red Queen must I plead my allegiance
On this far and distant shore?
Step away from the looking-glass I find
All my life, as the years pass, I loose my mind
Looking for that one path, to find my way home
Can I find a soul when I’m so alone?
In this world of childhood dreams
Where everything isn’t as they seem
On this cold and desolate shore?
Look away, look away, to the dawn of creation
Where to the ancients I lay my libation
As the looking-glass shatters side to side-
A broken soul that couldn’t hide.
Is this the world of false promise
Where I cannot grasp, everything I miss
Lies on that distant shore?
Lie to me! Tell me the looking-glass is there for
The few who really wish to know the lore
Instead of the fragments, so sharp, that can repair
My dreams, my hopes.. Can chase away my fears.
Is this a world I cannot dare turn my gaze
Where, even I, cannot see through the haze
Of this far and distant shore?
