The day we decided

to finally end

our on-off relationship, I swore

never to give way to anything

that would remind me of you.

But soon I found out that

I reckoned without our love song

for every time I hear it playing,

my world turns upside down

and time quickly rolls back

to the moments

when there’s still “us.”

While the lyrics may now sound silly,

the song still could awaken in me

everything we used to share –

the laughter, the tears, the pain…

And I wonder how you feel

every time you hear

our love song playing

now that we’ve been

apart this long;

and I couldn’t help but hope

that I remain the one

special person you associate

this love song with.

We can associate an event, a love one with a song. Songs really remind us of our love, our cherished memories. They make us sad. They make us happy.
