As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "Imitation is suicide." this poem digs into that concept.
I certainly don’t want to fit in with the rest
And I’ll know if I do that I’m not at my best
I know that if I fit in with them all
Then it shall be marked as that day’s worst fall
If everyone whispers then I want to shout
And when heads are low, I want mine to stick out.
Did Jesus spend His time trying to fit in?
No! He did not, and He never sinned
To all your opinions, I want to be numb
When you all look smart I don’t mind looking dumb
I don’t care what you think, don’t care what you say
When you make a decision, I’ll find my own way
