This actually happened. I was fucking pissed and screamed at the guy. But in the end we shared a smile.

Man on the corner – Newhall and Bouquet;
Right hand – the man was holding up a sign.

The sign read only “Ban H8”
And by the mask he wore, it was defiled.

Man on the corner – I can see your soul!
That mask you wear, it covers not your face,

It hides the sign you came to hold,
But freedom never hides, it never fears!

Man on the corner – protest protected,
I screamed, “Take off your mask and show yourself!

If you will fight, fight unafraid!
Leave hiding for the guilty, for the fools!”

Man on the corner – you removed your mask,
Then raised your head and hands like mine were raised.

Man on the corner – concrete now,
How beautiful, like learning how to stand.
