The old mariner and the sea, a story old and oft repeated!

THE MARINER

He loved the sea, and the sea loved him,

Cast away though, like so much flotsam,

Asea for days, through night and cold,

And in sun and heat, battered – not bold,

He drifted close, so close to shore,

Tossed on the beach, to sea no more,

Perched on the land, to stay he would,

You see, the mariner’s a piece of driftwood.

What a surprise and lovely poem. This one reminds me of the one you wrote about the wood used for the cross of Christ. This of course is lighter.
