An old man remembering from when he was young the views of his future and hopes of becoming someone that he once looked too, as a role model and mentor.

I was just seven and respected everyone so; or else

This is when I began to agree with the distinguished cowboy guy

In that I wanted to be like him; or the Mr. Clean guy

But, remember now; I was only seven; I didn’t look so good with a short crew cut

So Mr. Clean was out; big ears you know; so that ideal had to go

But, that cowboy guy sitting high on that hill; on his wild stead

In the saddle high, hat tip to one side, rope in hand, the other on the horn

Puffing that old cigarette; how cool was that?

I thought; this guy is though, I want to be like that

So I started to puff, I stole Camels at first then Mom’s Moores

Because, they looked like little cigars; I thought they were cool

I hacked and coughed at first; was not long till I could blow smoke rings

and flip them into my mouth from out of my hand

I was cool and not even eight

Man

My buddy Phil what a pill he could blow smoke out of his ears

Oh but, I got caught and was forced to quit the old fashion way

Three packs in a row; God did I get sick, I didn’t care much for that guy who caught me; Although

I should be thankful I guess?

See I stopped; but, Mom and Phil did not

They are gone now, and so are five others, all to those damn old cigarettes

That cowboy guy who would have guessed; he was really the “Grim Reaper”

Dress like that, I still think he is cool but, I think so is the Grim Reaper

He is cool today; since he put his cigarettes away
