A short poem about acting differently than what you want to due to fear and social constraints.

I have a twin
A double, some say.
The night to my day
Closer than kin.

Flesh and blood,
We’re never apart.
Like of mind
But different in heart.

I,
Timid, obedient
She,
Brave, rebellious

Yet I’m in the open,
And in the shadows is she.

She is the one I long to be,
Confident, virtuous, loyal and free.

Society binds me to who you see,
But little by little,
The bonds are slipping free.

Soon the masquerade shall crumble
And fall around my feet,

Soon the me in me will shine free.
