An ode to the deep-toned string instrument.

The Mighty Bass

Humming thunderously it echoes within the—

Orchestra, declaring its awesome presence

Like a fearsome arcane beast

With molten lava in its belly.

Yet with tender, timid, touch may you squeeze–

Its core-shaking sound as juice from an orange

So that the world may feast

Upon the rising rich notes.

With poise and grace and curve of wood

I shall know where you have stood.

Like an enchanted wand summoning its most—

Secret spells, is the slender, serpentine bow

Caressing the spider’s threads

While the rhapsody unfurls.

Tis an honor to know this creature so utterly tall–

And strong with majestic head raised high

Skyscraper of joy and dread

Who very few masters has.

With poise and grace and curve of wood

I shall know where you have stood.
