You’ve never seen one like this…

I watched my Green Bay Packers lose to the Chicago Bears tonight.  It sickened me.  I mean, this is Da Bears.  Put me in a downright ornery mood, to be honest.  But every once in a while, life gives us a bit of a slap, a reminder of what’s important.  Tonight I got one from a 17 year old kid from Washington named Ike Ditzenberger.  Here is Ike, scoring just about the coolest touchdown you’ll ever see.

Ike Ditzenberger has Down Syndrome.  For Ike, football is what it was meant to be…. a game, meant to teach dicipline and promote dedication, but most of all to be fun.  We sometimes, as sports fans- doesn’t really matter what sport; football, baseball, soccer… forget what sports is really about.  Even the athletes do quite often.  But on this Washington high school football field, everyone gets it.  The coaches and players who made it happen, the fans screaming for him in the background…. and Ike.  Need a reminder of what the great game of football is supposed to be?  Ask Ike.

I saw this on ESPN last night, and it was a nice feel-good story. I’m impressed with the players and coaches on both teams who collaborated with each other to the point of allowing this young man to experience the moment of his “life”. Nice article Big Mo. Better watch out Big Mo, you let your guard down with this one. All your “haters” will now know that your heart is as big as your mouth……….haha
