The ant, otherwise the naked crawler is, by nature, a care-free insect and this has made it the hapless victim of accident- under the heely shoes of men.
You seem not to care at all, Uncomplaining, ever satisfied, Crawling along naked And feeding on the things The children of Adam count as nothing, At times to be crushed to pieces Under their stiff, heel shoes. What an unkind thing to do When gnats and green-bottles Are busy buzzing by, menacingly, undisturbed. You inflict no harm; You cause no injury Except to carelessly placed cubes of sugar. Yet you remain resolute, undaunted, unminding, Marching along mechanically, In the face of threatened annihilation Ever satisfied with your vagabond existence.
