Poem.
A dark, dark ink black night
In a small window a solitary light
Dimly glows upon a face
A lady sits alone in her place.
Tap tap on the window pane
Tap tap but its not the rain.
Tap tap who begs entry at this hour?
She stands to look but nobody’s there.
Shuddering slightly she moves away
she starts to hum, she starts to pray
She sees midnight upon her clock
And yet her caller continues to knock.
Tap tap, won’t you let us in?
“Tap tap, we have to win
Open your window, share your light
Just a crack will be alright.”
They won’t leave, they will persist
To enter her room they do insist.
And so she swallows, inexplicably drawn
To open up to terrors unknown…
How she shrieks as in they fly
These khaki warriors from the sky!
Her hands come up to shield her face
Crying now she flees the place
Yet strangely they do not pursue
To their goal they must stay true.
“Oh what a discovery we have made
What a victory we have played
Now happily basking
No more tapping or asking
three happy moths on a pale lampshade!”
