Please be safe and come home to me once again, I am here waiting for you, always.
While you are off to war I am here waiting for you Lost without you Already writing you letters Getting packages ready to be shipped Every little sound I hear Has me looking at the door Hoping to see your smiling face Phone rings I run like my life depends on it Dropping all that I am doing Praying its your voice I hear on the line Checking the mail Repeatedly asking the clerk “Is this all the mail , can you recheck for me , please?” They say war is hell on the soldiers Its hell on the loved ones left behind For we also face The horrors of war in a different way Its the days without you No word from you for weeks Watching the killings on news Hoping its not you I scan every news article Wanting some word But fearing , I will see your name Hoping you are safe and coming home soon It takes its toll on us too “‘Please be safe and come home to me ,” Is a silent prayer in my head During my waking moments “Please be safe and come home to me once again , I am here waiting for you , always.”
