Women in many countries of the world are condemned to a life of near-slavery by men who think that there should be no equality between the sexes. The problem is most prevalent in Arab counries where sectarianism is dominant. Recently, in Afghanistan, a woman was whipped for innocently walking with a man, a punishment that can be termed as the outcropping of ignorance.

There’s a battle raging now

And going on and on;

It’s a woman’s moral battle

That must be fought and won.

No doubt, her passion to correct

Our world of ills and wrongs

Deserves the recognition that

She be where she belongs

Within the ranks of human skill

Where she excels and can

Compete with fervor equal to

Or better than a man.

How often has she well- excelled

But counted out and left,

Cold in the blizzard of despair,

Frostbitten and bereft.

Her deeds are trampled on, undone

By man’s injustice, crude,

Exempting her to hold control

Except that of her brood.

The centuries of old taboos

And fetishes of man

Till now sustain his arrogrance

And egotistic plan

That she be forced and held beneath

His status to uphold

Traditions strange to this new age,

An age not just of gold,

Nor money, nor his male prestige,

But one where she and he

Together build a solid front

For every soul that’s free,

Until the ills of ages past

Must turn to beacons of

Equality and justice in

The myriads fields of love.

Beautifully written Novelist. It is appalling to think this kind of treatment still goes on in our “civilized” world.
