This is a poem I wrote for an english assignment and found it’s characteristics to be very dark and mysterious.
A single ray of light
Appeared from through the trees
Like the hope left in my heart
Like the scatter of the leaves.
Exposed am I to the arms of death,
Which call to me day and night,
They promise me an escape,
From this terrible fight.
I cannot move a muscle,
I’ve given up for good,
Then I see someone emerging,
From this dark and endless wood.
Exposed am I to the arms of death,
Which follow me everywhere,
They promise me an escape,
From this land I cannot bear.
As the man moves towards me,
His rifle held up high,
I get this unknown feeling,
That I’m about to die.
Exposed am I to the arms of death,
Which point the way for me,
They promise me an escape,
To a place I want to be.
Bang, Bang, Bang,
It echoes as I fall,
Bang, Bang, Bang,
I’m no longer standing tall.
Exposed am I to the arms of death,
Which sing their song of sorrow
They promise me an escape,
A today, a tomorrow.
As I hold my head up high,
I stare into my killer’s eyes,
Not full of regret or sadness,
Just hatred, death and lies.
Falling am I to the arms of death,
Which make me numb to pain,
They promise me an escape,
From this life I had in vain.
Death opens its arms wide,
It seems like an open heart,
The moment I’ve been waiting for;
The time we’re not apart.
Enclosed am I in the arms of death,
And it’s here I’ll always roam,
But I often regret my promise,
For I can never call it home.
There’s a light shining ahead,
And as it greets me with love,
I turn away from this world,
To reach that sanctuary above.
