A description of how I felt growing up – like an alien from some other world, misunderstood, unappreciated, with something very scary inside that I nevertheless loved and embraced as beautiful.

I am a stranger
conceived in the outer limits
adrift in an ocean of illusions
confined forever to the outside realm

They try to reach into my mind
through the mists and the castles and the lush forests of my thoughts
They try to swim in my rivers
but find themselves drowning in their own fear

They cannot appreciate the razor sharpness of my mountaintops
the velvety darkness of my valleys
the strangeness that is so primal,
so comforting to me

So they try to hold me back, pin me down,
Snuff my out
But I will break free,
A solitary candle in the blackest night
