A poem for aspiring poets.
The Poet’s Voice
by Chriss McCallum
The poet, searching for his voice,
might try the tones of Yeats or Joyce,
might practise in the Eliot style
with sly allusion, subtle smile,
might look to Larkin’s candid muse
or probe the power of lusty Hughes.
But when it’s time to make a choice
the poet, searching for his voice,
won’t find it with that lofty throng,
but in his own heart’s honest song.
