He will show you that hands are faster than the eyes.

A lover with hopes for happy romance

He stood by the crowd for a strike of chance

Promising moon, sky and stars at a glance

Another call for the voting citizens to dance

Words and voice commanding submission

Strike of the magic wand for a demonstration

A magician does a trick with a political ambition

Spell to silence and mesmerize the whole nation

With term served and everything come to end

From suspended animation the nation awakened

Better life worsened the citizens couldn’t comprehend

Yet another national election a moment to pretend

So if you want for all the miseries to be left outside

Better vote for me (he told) to renew another spell to confide

As a politician-magician I will tell you my own side

The magic spell works out for a time until it subsides

I have no words to express how I feel about politicians. Actually, I do have a few words to express my feelings about politicians but I won’t use them because if I did I might get banned from Triond.

This is very creative. well-done. I love how you compare a politician to a lover. A lover will promise you the moon starts and sky at once but does he fulfill his promise that’s a different story. Lol. The politician magician performs a trick to get the people to vote for him. “the magic spell works out for a time until it subsides.” Getting the nation to vote for him is all that matters now. “the magic spells works out for a time until it subsides.”

Politics. The art of manipulation. Witty poem.
I am still waiting to see an honest politician. And by honest, I also mean not cheating the citizens and not cheating on his own wife.

My thoughts on politicans are that they make thing disappear and reappear in their pockets, excellent post.

  • Geomorphosis on Apr 9, 2010

I completely agree… And they perform the ‘vanishing act’ once they are elected. Good poem.

He\’s like a magician. Oh well, politicians can sometimes behave like a magician. They said \”yes\” then they can said \”no\” Clicked you \”liked it\”

Kabayan, I’m now starting to worry about our incoming elections here in Philippines.

A very creative piece of writing with a clever use of metaphor. A politician is like a magician: performs deceptive tricks to get what he wants.A great share.

A very interesting picture of a politician you have painted here, Kabayan.

Well written, we have a general election coming up and there is only one thing I am sure of – you can’t trust any of them!

  • deep blue on Apr 10, 2010

Thanks for all the comments. To Frances, it’s a coincidence that the UK and the Philippines will both have the national elections this coming May. Let’s just hope for the best or anything less bitter to come our way.

Nice poem, Will. Very timely but for me politicians are like ‘toothpaste’ models. Notice how they smile a lot. OMG… So creepy as if some wolves in disguises… he he!

  • Starpisces on Apr 11, 2010

I don’t know much about politics, but one thing for sure, you wrote this poem very well, creative.

actually this was such a good idea for a write :)

  • deep blue on Apr 11, 2010

I’m sorry Frank, I suppose I took your prospective ideas for poetry. Well, it seem human occupations are interesting fields to be inspired about.

The politicians here in the U.S. aren\’t fooling anyone, anymore. They are overpaid and arrogant and very few of them care about anything other than getting re-elected to stay in power. Hopefully, we\’ll vote them all out in our Novermber mid-term election. Very creative poem, Will.
